当社本殿は池の上に建っており、その池は龍神の住む龍穴だと言われています。

その池は現在亀腹状に盛り上がった漆喰で固められており、見ることはできませんが、

通常非公開の本殿内拝観を通して神様と龍穴の近くでご参拝いただけます。

「龍穴詣り」八坂神社の神聖な場所である龍の棲みか/龍穴の参詣

八坂神社の国宝本殿は、池の上に建てられています。その池は「龍穴」呼ばれ、龍の棲む場所であると信じられてきました。

古来の信仰によると、京都の地下には龍脈と呼ばれる気の流れる道・脈があるといわれており、龍穴は龍脈の気が集中する点・場所であると信じられてきました。

現在、池は分厚い漆喰の蓋で覆われており、見ることができません。ですが、この通常非公開の本殿内部からの特別なお詣りを通じて、龍穴に棲むと伝わる龍神の気配や存在を感じることができるかもしれません。

本殿内での参拝と、諫宝樹画伯による龍神衝立の拝観の後、参拝者には龍穴からの神聖な湧き水/龍穴から湧いている神聖な水で点てたお抹茶が振る舞われます。

”Ryuketsu Mairi” Pilgrimage of Dragon’s Lair, the Sacred Place of Yasaka Jinja Shrine

The main shrine of Yasaka Jinja Shrine, designated as a national treasure, is built above a pond, called “Ryūketsu” (龍穴), which believed to be the lair of a Dragon God.

According to ancient belief, there are “Ryūmyaku”(龍脈), a Ｄragon’s vein believed to be pathway through which the spiritual energy “Qi”(気) courses and it runs through the underground of city of Kyoto. Also, the “Ryūketsu”, Dragon’s lairs believed to be the points where energy of Dragon’s vein converges.

Currently, the pond is concealed beneath a thick plaster cover and unable to see it. Although, visitor could be able to experience the presence of this mythical Dragon God through this special pilgrimage, from a nonpublic viewing location inside the main shrine.

Following the pilgrimage and viewing of a Dragon God Screen drawn by renowned painter Tamaju Isayama, inside the main shrine, visitor will be served ceremonial matcha tea prepared with the “Seiryūshinsui”, a sacred Dragon God spring water from “Ryūketsu”.
